I’m Jiaqi (Jay) Zhao. I live in the great city of Toronto, where I build the future.
My journey here has been anything but typical. In high school, I was building rocket launchers. At university, I was tuning and modding my race car, diving deep into mechanics and optimization. Later, I co-founded a 3D printing startup, exploring the entrepreneurial side of innovation. Eventually, I doubled down on my software engineering career, where I’ve had the privilege of working across diverse industries—from startups and fintech to big tech. Each experience has shaped my approach, whether it’s the fast-paced adaptability of a startup or the structured, high-impact engineering culture of larger organizations.
Beyond work, I’m deeply curious about the world. I’ve been fortunate to travel to incredible places like Costa Rica, the Bahamas, Korea, Italy, and China, each journey inspiring me in different ways. From immersing myself in vibrant cultures to marveling at breathtaking landscapes, travel has taught me to appreciate the beauty of diversity and complexity. Travel fuels my creativity, broadens my perspective, and reminds me that there’s always more to learn and discover. And I carry these inspirations and mindset into every product I design and build.
Currently, I live in Toronto, where I juggle a full-time software engineering role with my passion for working out, skateboarding, and motorcycles. I’m also exploring healthy living, though coffee and home cooking remain my constant companions.
